2426 Hillsborough StThis bar was featured in Bull Durham and is still going strong today. It's got great food, cheap liquor and attractive beer specials, a prime location on Hillsborough Street.
The only thing I can really add to the glowing reviews already posted is that Mitch's has a great selection of vegetarian items, more than any other bar I can name in the area. The gazpacho is some of the best I've ever had, so if you're a vegetarian and haven't checked it out, you will be pleasantly surprised at all they have to offer.

Their black bean chilli is really good. For some reason, physicists seem to like the place, so stop by if you want to run into the next Einstein.

Hell, whenever I go back home to visit my old professors we grab a pint at Mitch's to catch up and reminisce. With the turnover of restaurants on Hillsborough Street, you have to give Mitch's its props for standing strong.
Good place on Hillsborough; nice that they have the summer platter year round.
Do bring cash: the folks behind the counter clearly appreciate.
Mitch's has a great casual, laidback atmosphere and a menu of sturdy favorites. Everything is in the $5 - $7 range and they serve a variety of sandwiches, hot subs and pastas. If you get the pasta primavera, expect a TON of food - it's served in a giant boat of a bowl.
Mitch's is a great, unpretentious bar. If you're looking for a good place to hang out with your friends and drink - then this is the place. I've also gone during the day and met my parents there for dinner. I thought the food was pretty good - fresh and healthy options for those of us looking for something besides deep fried cheese sticks (don't get me wrong, deep fried cheese sticks are good... just that they don't make me look good). If you go during the day, Mitch is usually there. He's not the warmest of characters - but he's a straight shooter. I believe that Mitch's daughter works in the evenings. Also, as memory serves, there's a pool table in the back. On comfortable evenings, they open the doors to the let in the nice night air.
I hope that one day, Hillsboro St. is a cool place to hang out where there's lots of cool bars, shopping, breakfast shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. Right now, it seems like they're hitting on a little bit of that - but there is room for improvement. I'm talkin' about Hillsboro St. being cool like Franklin St. is to Chapel Hill. Know what I mean?
Best bar on Hillsborough Street. Awesome food, good prices, and a great atmosphere.
Definitely a good NCSU hangout.
